Major update WhatMatrix Data Protection comparison

In the last months, we have worked hard to re-think and update the data protection category. Today we are happy to announce that the new comparison is LIVE!

Data Protection Overview

Data Protection is hot again! A long time there were little movements within the data protection space. You had the traditional enterprise backup solutions on one side with products like NetBackup, Commvault and Backup Exec and on the other side the upcoming products for Virtual Machines with Veeam and the VMware own products.

With the introduction of hyperconvergence in the on-premise market and more and more companies looking into cloud offerings, the backup space is moving again. Companies like Rubrik and Cohesity are shaking up the data protection space and are focussing on these new technology areas with a more simplified approach.

What’s new in the comparison?

In the last couple of months, we have worked hard to update all the information to get it reflected in the current state and add vendors to the comparison. What is added and changed?

  • Altaro added to comparison
  • New and changed categories
  • Updated content

Altaro

Altaro is added to the data protection comparison! Altaro is a fast-growing developer of easy-to-use and affordable backup solutions for businesses of 1,000 users and under, featuring enterprise-class features and functionality and specializing in backup for virtualized environments. Check it out!

New and changed evaluation features

The previous version of the comparison was mainly focussed on Virtual Machine backups. In this new release, we have added the capabilities of the cloud. We have added Azure, Amazon, Google, and VMware on AWS as a backup source and added, cloud repositories like Azure Blob and Amazon S3 to the evaluation features. Also, take a look at the added Software-as-a-Service features!

Besides adding all these new cloud features, we have also worked on enhancing the on-premise features. We’ve added more evaluation features for storage integration, physical servers, and database support. So, take a look at this new release whether you’re searching for an on-premise, hybrid or cloud solution!

Updated content

As the data protection area is moving again and is moving quick all vendors are adding new or enhanced features and functionalities in their products. In this major comparison update, all information has been updated to reflect the last state of the data protection products.

If we still have missed something, please let us know, we’re always open for feedback. Please contact us via the contact form.

And what’s next…?

Since the beginning of this year, Martijn Moret has joined the WhatMatrix data protection team to support the expansion of the comparison. Martijn has a strong background in the storage and data protection space and will help us to onboard more and more vendors, first to come: Commvault. Welcome, Martijn!

Besides adding new vendors, we will work on creating a WhatMatrix landscape report for the Data Protection. If you aren’t familiar yet with the WhatMatrix landscape reports, you can check the reports for CMP and HCI & SDS already here.

In the meantime, if you have any suggestions, feedback or anything else, please let us know, via the contact option on the website.
